Kylie Jenner.....Khloe Kardashian....Angelina Jolie.....
These were all celebs that I DIDN'T want my lips to look like! Haha!
Now listen, before all the haters start commenting....I realize my lips didn't look *bad* before. But I've always been team "if it makes you feel more confident, go for it". That's how I felt about my lip injections. I've seen friends and Instagrammers get subtle fillers and look AMAZING, so when this opportunity presented itself, I had to go for it!
As a bit of a nerd, I'm the kind of person who does a tonnnn of research before even purchasing a knife set, so lip fillers were no different. I discovered they are temporary, only lasting 4-6 months (the more you get the longer each syringe lasts). I also learned that if something went terribly wrong and I HATED them, there is a product that can dissolve the filler immediately and your lips will return to normal. This was comforting.
I also discovered there are several different products to choose from when getting injections. Juvaderm, Restylane, and Vobella are a few of the most popular. I opted for Vobella for the first time because of its more "natural" nature.
When I arrived the morning of my appointment I was surprisingly calm, until the numbing cream went on. Then the nerves kicked in! After letting the numbing cream sit for about 15 min, it was time to go. Now, I would be lying to you if I said it was *completely* pain free even with numbing cream.....it wasn't. The best sensation I can compare it to is a quick mosquito bite as the product goes in. Maybe a 5 or 6 on a scale of 1-10. The best part though is it's over in mere minutes. Nothin even the most sensitive person couldn't get through!
One of the benefits of lip filler is the ability to see immediate results. For those who have little to no patience like myself, this is a blessing! Of course the lips will be a bit more swollen shortly after the injections, but you will be able to determine if the shape and placement is to your liking.
Once the numbing cream wore off a few hours later, the swelling became a bit alarming. Fortunately between my research and the warnings of the medspa staff, I knew it was to be expected and temporary. Some people bruise during this phase, but luckily this was one side effect I avoided. I numbed them with ice while watching tv and went to bed. Over the course of the next few days, the swelling subsided and the fullness really began to take shape!
At my two week follow up appointment I decided to add a bit more fullness to the bottom as one side had 'taken' better than the other. This time we opted for juvaderm and I achieved the final look I was going for.
- I LOVE them. I notice myself staring at the fullness more and more, especially when wearing lipstick.
- Next time I'll take the jump straight to juvaderm rather than Vobella.
- Don't commit to starting fillers unless you're prepared to *pay* for the maintenance. More on this....
The most common question I get is "Whats the cost?" Well unfortunately it's hard to give an exact number. Your cost will be determinant on the type of product, how many syringes you get, and if the place you visit has any specials going on. I would approximate most people will spend around $500- $1,000. Chances are you will love them and will need to be prepared to pay for the maintenance!
I hope my experience helps you decide whether this procedure is right for you. Remember: do what makes YOU happy and block out the haters ;)
PS- After experimenting with my ‘new’ lips, I found a few new lipsticks I am obsessedddd with. Here are a few!
